We’re thrilled to share that Shaden Marzouk, MD MBA, is joining the Oscar family as our chief medical officer where she will oversee all of our medical efforts and ensure we’re delivering the best care possible to all of our members.
At Oscar, we give our members world-class care through smart and innovative solutions including unlimited and free access to our tele-doctors and instant alerts for physicians when their patients visit emergency rooms. In addition to investing in technology, we’re also working to raise the quality of our engagement with members – each of our members gets their very own dedicated four-person team at Oscar who can help them more easily navigate this complex world that is healthcare today. We aspire to develop a personal relationship with our members that’s based on familiarity, trust and member-specific expertise, and not just paying medical claims.
Shaden is one of the most accomplished medical leaders in the world. Before she joined Oscar, she was the Senior Vice President of Clinical Operations at Cardinal Health, where she led the acquisition and integration of new businesses in devices, services, and analytics and acted as a member of the Medical Segment Leadership team. Prior to Cardinal Health, Shaden had an accomplished and diverse career, as Chief of Neurosurgery at William Beaumont Army Medical Center, a Major in the US Army spending time in Iraq, earning her MBA at the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University, conducting equity research at NCM Capital and working in the Investment Banking division of Goldman Sachs Healthcare Group. In her spare time, Shaden loves to race cars on the racetrack.
“Patients are the most important part of the healthcare team and I love that Oscar helps members understand their health and easily navigate options for care. As a physician, I believe that any time we enable patient success, we enable the success of our healthcare system. After admiring Oscar from afar, I’m excited to join the team and continue the mission of making healthcare better.“ –Shaden
This is why we’re especially excited to have Shaden join our team. In our interviews, when we demoed the Oscar technology to generate the best action for navigating through a lower back pain episode, she immediately jumped in with quantifiable suggestions to improve our algorithm. She is an incredible fit for Oscar not only because of her impressive medical background, but also because she is a creative and yet deeply scientific thinker, and most importantly, passionate about solving for the member.
We can’t wait to see how Shaden will elevate our game in the way we deliver care for our members. We hope you are all just as excited as we are – please join us in welcoming her!
