Now that Open Enrollment is done, we’re taking the opportunity to launch a new content feature we’re really excited about. We want to help our members get the most out of your coverage, so every month we’re sharing important ways that Oscar can help you stay healthy!
Did you know that in their lifetimes, approximately 80 percent of sexually active people will be infected with HPV, also known as human papillomavirus? It’s the most common sexually transmitted infection (STI). In most cases, the virus goes away on its own, but when it doesn’t, it can lead to more serious problems, like cervical cancer.
HPV is very treatable (especially when detected early), which is why screenings are so important. The Pap test is recommended by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force for all women aged 21 to 65. It looks for pre-cancers, which cell changes on the cervix that might turn into cervical cancer if not treated. Your doctor can help you determine exactly how often you’ll need to be screened, which can range from annually to every three to five years, depending on your risk factors. But no matter the timeline, know that when you have health insurance, it’s available to you free of charge each year—whether or not you’ve met your deductible. The only catch is that you need to do it with an in-network provider. That’s where we come in: If you’re an Oscar member, find one here. And if you have any questions, please just give us a call at 855-OSCAR-55 or email help@hioscar.com and we’ll be happy to give you all the info you need.
